How to Avoid Auto-Tag or Auto-Mention on Facebook

This week, Facebook auto-mention spreads like a wildfire. If you are one of those people who received notifications of being tagged and found out that you are tagged in a comment of a post containing link of a Facebook Theme or Facebook tips and tricks, then you are a victim of an annoying spam activity on Facebook. The person who mentioned you is also a victim so don't get mad at him. Just let him know about this in a polite manner.

How this Facebook Theme works?

For you to be able to customize your Facebook, you have to copy a certain code and paste it on the console box of your browser. When you are done pasting, you have to wait for a few seconds and you're done. Some of the codes are not working the way you want it to work. You will just find out that you are cheated. Why? Because you will be receiving notifications that your FB friends like the fanpage that you let them like. This is the result of pasting the code of the "Facebook theme" on your browser. You drive your friends to like a  fanpage, a post or a group in which you were not aware of. Auto-follow is also a risk. So always be careful  on your Facebook activities.

To avoid annoying your friends, don't be enticed to copy-paste codes on your browsers because you are just making fame whores, attention-whores, attention-seekers or whatever you call them be "famous" more than they wanted to be. Activities like this is also the reason why people block you.

For the victims of auto-tag and those who tagged, I don't know if this helps but to make sure that you will not be tagged or cannot tag anyone in the future, try the following:

  • Click the notification in which you were mentioned.
  • You will be redirected to the post and there you can see the name of the one who originally shared the Facebook theme. Notice that the post gained many likes, comments (most of which bear random names being mentioned) and shares.
  • Click the name of the one who shared the code.
  • And block him/her.
Update: According to a source, this is called phishing scam. This activity is designed to steal personal information from your computer or cellphone like credit or bank account number, location, videos or photos.

What should you do if you installed the "facebook theme?" Follow the steps below:
  • Clear recent history.
  • Change you Facebook password.
  • Update your anti-virus.
  • Scan your computer with anti-virus.
I hope this article helps.
